About this study
The Mankato/North Mankato Planning Organization (MAPO) is developing a vision for a quarter-mile section of Riverfront Drive between May Street and Mabel Street in Mankato.

The overall vision aims to improve:
- Safety
- Multi-modal connectivity
- Crossing opportunities
- Access to Riverfront Drive
Schedule
The study will be conducted March 2023 through fall 2023.
Background
Riverfront Drive is a significant roadway that serves as a key regional and local connection that provides access to downtown Mankato as well as U.S. Highway 14 and U.S. Highway 169.
A *larger study of Riverfront Drive between Woodland Avenue and Highway 14 was conducted in 2017. As part of the study, existing and future conditions on Riverfront Drive were evaluated, and recommendations for improvements to be made during the next 25 years were provided. Some of the recommended improvements have already been made, including the recent construction of two roundabouts and trail improvements at the Highway 14/Riverfront Drive interchange.
The 2023 Riverfront Drive Intersection Improvements Study will build on work already done by looking for ways to address ongoing issues, including speeding, traffic back-ups and delays on side streets and crashes (particularly at the May Street and Mabel Street intersections).
*The study was a partnership between MAPO, the City of Mankato, Blue Earth County and the Minnesota Department of Transportation. Bolton and Menk served as the consultant.
